Wordpress 2.8 Baker Has Been Released!

Wordpress 2.8 has been released today, which includes a number of new features, and more importantly several bug fixes (790 in all). According to the Wordpress.org Blog, improvements have been made to themes, widgets, taxonomies, and overall speed.

Wordpress 2.8 is said to be speedier in styling and scripting pages. One of the new major features is the browsing of new themes inside the Wordpress Admin Panel, similar to the plugin browsing included in Wordpress 2.7.

The Wordpress in-built code editor now has syntax highlighting, which was really need, since I was using a plugin to achieve that feature.

One more thing of note is the links provided when you are editing Wordpress functions. They link to documentation at the Codex. This might be helpful when debugging or hacking the Wordpress Core.

The widget interface in the admin panel has been re-designed and now we have tons of new features like widget cloning, save inactive widget settings, etc. It really rocks!

Finally we also have a new “Screen Options” page which allows you to define the number of column you want to show on your dashboard according to your screen width.

Here’s a video demonstrating all the some of the new features of Wordpress 2.8:
